Ballistics Analysis

The animations below show a comparison of a gunshot and quantified data extracted from optical flow analyses. This type of data can be used to quantify various performance metrics and will lead to a better understanding of the impact that mechanical control devices, such as muzzle breaks and suppressors, have on the ballistics. The animations below are representative preliminary results used to form a working relationship with industry and DoD partners. Contact us if you'd like to learn more about some of our research!

Comparison between a shadowgraph image and the corresponding velocity fields for a regular muzzle break. The contour levels correspond to the vorticity magnitude.
